Chinese table

The Chinese table is used to predict the sex of the baby during pregnancy. It is a calendar to determine if the baby to be born will be a boy or a girl, based on two pieces of information: the mother's age and the exact month in which the baby was conceived. According to tradition, the Chinese table, although used well, succeeds in 90 percent of the chaos. Many women, for generations, have also used this table to get pregnant with a baby of the desired sex.

Basal temperature

Basal temperature is the lowest temperature the body has after resting for at least 5 hours. With the basal temperature method you can know the fertile days in a woman's menstrual cycle. To make a basal temperature chart, a woman should take her temperature each morning at the same time, as soon as she wakes up and while in bed, and write it down on the corresponding date in a table, for at least one month. The basal temperature helps a woman know her fertile days, both to increase the chances of becoming pregnant and to avoid pregnancy.

Apgar test

It is an evaluation test of the vitality picture of a baby, just when it has just been born. The Apgar test score is determined in three stages: 1 minute after birth, 5 minutes and 10 minutes. The baby's heart rate, breathing, muscle tone, reflexes, and skin color are observed. When the score in any of the stages is very low, the baby may have to be observed in an incubator during the first hours of life.

Labor

There are signs or symptoms that indicate that labor is about to begin. These signs are called Labor, which consists of a series of continuous and progressive contractions of the uterus that cause the cervix to dilate and thin, to allow the baby to pass through the birth canal, and be born. In addition to this symptom, the rupture of the amniotic sac and the expulsion of some blood, mixed with a little vaginal discharge, can also indicate that labor is starting.

Mucous plug

The mucous plug is a thick brownish substance that is created by secretions from the cervix, early in pregnancy, to prevent germs from entering the uterus, which can travel up the cervix and cause infection. It works as a protective barrier, sealing the cervix, and is expelled days, weeks, or hours before delivery, often without the pregnant woman noticing. The mucous plug is usually not large and is a sign that labor is approaching.

Toxoplasmosis

Toxoplasmosis is a very common infection, transmitted and caused by a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. The incubation period for the disease is approximately one to two weeks, and its symptoms are similar to those of influenza or infectious mononucleosis, characterized by fatigue, muscle aches, fever, and swollen glands. The infection usually occurs only once in a lifetime and represents danger only when acquired during pregnancy because it can endanger the health of your baby, in addition to posing a risk for immunosuppressed people, that is, those who are affected by diseases that your defenses against infection are lowered.

O'Sullivan's test

Also known as the sugar test or the curve test, the O'Sullivan test is a medical test performed between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy to find out if the pregnant woman has gestational diabetes. The test is done by performing sugar overload and testing the mother's blood.

Triple Screening

The pregnant woman undergoes a blood test to detect any abnormality in the growing baby. Specifically, this test detects the presence of three hormones: jcG, unconjugated estriol, and alpha-fetoprotein. In addition to abnormalities, high amounts can also indicate a multiple pregnancy.
